Regulations and policy challenges

Given that generative AI, including ChatGPT, is still evolving, relevant regulations and policies are far from mature. With generative AI creating different forms of content, the copyright of these contents becomes a significant yet complicated issue. Table 3 presents the challenges associated with regulations and policies, which are copyright and governance issues.

Mitigation strategy

1. Establish comprehensive internal AI governance policies outlining permissible use cases, adherence to ethical standards, and explicit requirements for ensuring AI-generated outputs respect existing intellectual property rights. 2. Implement rigorous human oversight protocols requiring expert review and final approval of AI-generated content prior to deployment, thereby ensuring originality and establishing the requisite human involvement for potential copyright protection. 3. Mandate the exclusive use of properly licensed datasets or public domain materials for the training of generative AI models to proactively mitigate the legal and compliance risks associated with unauthorized reproduction of copyrighted works.
